I remember Saturday afternoons, the program Shirley Temple Theater came on, showcasing a different movie each week.
My mother would gravitate to our den to join me.
So would my sister…and eventually, when Dad came home from work, we enjoyed Shirley as a family.
Every movie made you feel great.
Thinking on the 80+ films this child super-star made, each character was kind, respectful, and full of hope.
Shirley broke the race barrier too, dancing with black entertainers, even holding their hand when such things were forbidden.
The only child actor who comes within 10% of her impact on America might be Annette Funicello.
After her, can you imagine any of these kids becoming U.S. Ambassadors:…Lindsay Lohan, Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus?
You know the answer.
If you haven’t introduced your children to Shirley Temple but they do know any of the rugrats mentioned above, you’re robbing them of the ideal child role model.
It’s impossible to describe her charm in words…it must be experienced.
When the Queen of Sheba vistied King Solomon she had heard of his wisdom, but only after seeing with her own eyes, did she realize half of his legend had been told.
Sheba showered Solomon with gifts.
God showered America with Shirley Temple.
Thank you young lady…I can’t wait to meet you some day.
