Baseball’s Most Famous Marine

I made a follow-up call to a Marine base this week.

It didn’t take long for the subject of Baseball to come up.

Once the young Captain learned I was a Red Sox fan, he taught me a few things.

“Sir,” he said respectfully, “I’m a Red Sox fan because Ted Williams was a Marine.”

He went on to say…”there’s a building here dedicated to a General who rescued Ted Williams after he was shot down.”

Now that’s my idea of a memorial.

Considering that Ted was shot down over the Pacific, I wonder what his reaction would be today, knowing that Asian relief pitchers locked down game 5 against the Tigers?

My guess?..He’d take it all in stride.

Great work men.
