God-Haters Think They’re Cashing In

I love the parable of the wedding invitation from Luke 14.

This has likely happened to all of us in one way or another.

7 And He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He noticed how they had been picking out the places of honor at the table, saying to them, 8 “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him, 9 and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then in disgrace you proceed to occupy the last place. 10 But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will have honor in the sight of all who are at the table with you. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

As I read the news story below, about how the ACLU sued a public school for having a painting of Jesus on their walls, one that had been there since 1947, I thought about how they’re not much different from those who exalted themselves at the Biblical wedding feast in Luke 14.

Sure, for a time, they’ve scurried to the front, in their own power and won a bit of cash…but that’s only until the Host sets things right.

You see, this parable is not just about an earthly lesson…Biblical wedding feasts always allude to that great marriage supper of the Lamb, at the end of time.

Jesus reminds us how easily we can squander afterlife through pride and arrogance.

As for the God-Haters at the ACLU and their flock…good luck bribing God with that measly $3,000 you’ve won.

He doesn’t need your money, but soon you’ll find out, you sure needed Him.
