Let Obamacare Defe(u)nd Itself

September 30, 2013

My dad was the king of one-liners.

A favorite of his, which I still use at least once a week:

Don’t fight for something that’s coming your way.

Republicans, especially the best ones from the Tea Party, are trying desperately to de-fund Obamacare.

I understand the logic.

A good faith effort to stop a catastrophe always deserves a pat on the back.

However, this dreaded law begins in full force October 1, as planned, despite efforts by Ted Cruz and others.

Now come the results of my Dad’s wisdom.

This giant cluster/mish-mash of rules is about to have to stand on its own.

No more Tom Friedmans of the world to defend it by carrying on about how obstructionist-like Republicans are.

It’s now time for this glorious idea to go mano a mano with every American in need of health care.

If you think the Tea Party was mad about something Nancy Pelosi didn’t read,  wait until you see the octogenarians lash out at something they never read either.

Let the side-show begin.

The unraveling of this legislation, as it endures the light of day, just may cause Obama to care a bit less about having his name linked to it.

Maybe he can change the moniker to SoteroCare.

Here’s a list of 10 States (that the AP won’t report on) where insurance companies have already abandoned ship.

My Foolish Idea as a City Councilor

September 29, 2013

One of the most foolish things I ever did as a City Councilor, at least by the Apostle Paul’s standards (2 Corinthians 11:23 “Are they ministers of Christ? I speak as a fool”) was the day I petitioned to return the 10 Commandments to our public schools.

You have to remember, I had no idea what I was doing, since it was not even a School Committee meeting at which I was pontificating.

The idea was inspired by the heart-wrenching tragedies of the Columbine High School massacre, where two teenage boys went on a killing spree murdering 12 of their peers.

I knew the motion would fail, but I had to try.

My suggestion was that the Law needed to be on display at every public school, not as a religious nod, but as an historic document.

My hope was that seeing the words “Thou shalt not kill” might actually prevent a repeat performance in Pittsfield.

I lost 10-1.

I even made national news, or so I was told, as my aunt heard my name on a news report in California the next day.

Now the better news.

Others, with a far better plan than me, in a place called Kansas, at the appropriate meeting of the School Board, have returned student led prayer to their High School.

The article above is sure to inspire America’s wonderful population of self-loathing Atheists to drop legal bombs on their prayer party, to protect the children from themselves of course.

Here’s the bottom line.

Satan has America’s public schools right where he wants them…he’s not about to give back one inch of that territory without a fight.

God bless you rural Kansas school board…just be ready for a fight.

Prayers for Marisa

September 28, 2013

Today’s post is not an opinion piece.

It’s a prayer request.

Our daughter is preparing to travel to Haiti for nine months.

She has accepted a position as a youth choir director at a music center in Port-au-Prince.

As you can probably imagine, her mother and I are worried.

Haiti has many wonderful people, but, it still remains the poorest country in the West.

Please keep her in your prayers.

At the very least, for her mom and I, we know that when she’s singing she’s happy.

God bless you Binty…we’re so proud of you.

High-Five for Holloway and His Party

September 27, 2013

I can’t say for sure why former NFL player Brian Holloway changed his mind regarding not pressing charges against hoards of teenagers who broke into–then partied–at his home.

Could it be that their continued bad behavior, even after they were found out, hurt their cause?

You see, Mr. Holloway asked those responsible to come to a “clean-up” party to simultaneously “come-clean.”

His demeanor seemed to say “if you show remorse, I will show mercy.”

Boy that sounds familiar.

To the dismay of the football hero, and those watching things play out around the country, the idea of a “party” that involved “work” didn’t have the same Twitter-appeal to the flash mob of 300.

Here’s why I salute you Mr. H.

You’re doing more to “parent” those kids than their own pathetic excuses for a mom and dad.

“Spare the rod, spoil the child” is not just a fairy tale concept…it’s a fact.

It comes from that same oft neglected book where one can learn about mercy and wrath.

Maybe these entitlement loving parents can all band together and hire a high-priced lawyer to defend the accused “parties” involved.

Good luck trying to use up his resources without paying.

The Army of One–Obama–Not Cruz

September 26, 2013

Liberal pundits are having a great time poking fun at Ted Cruz, for his valiant effort to filibuster and shut down the worst piece of legislation in our nation’s history.

Cartoons depicting him as a clown are just the tip of the iceberg.

The left is trying to paint a picture that Mr. Cruz is all alone in his quest.

Unfortunately for the President, outside the lap-dog media anyway, he’s the one who stands alone.

Stories like that coming out of Kentucky, where a family of four had their insurance premiums tripled, are the exact spotlight that exposes America’s biggest rodeo clown.

The wagon circle is shrinking around the army of one.

War and Greed

September 25, 2013

No one has been tougher on President Obama than Conservatives regarding his lousy idea to bomb Syria.

But, even with such a flawed idea, I’m proud that America’s rule of thumb, with regard to war, has never been equal to that of the Kaiser’s.

I recently visited the amazingly beautiful World War I Memorial Museum in Kansas City, Missouri.

Besides an expansive park, similar to the Mall on Washington, it has a giant tower, that put me in mind of the one atop Mount Greylock, and an even better indoor museum under ground.

A speech that I heard from a recording of Kaiser Wilhelm helped put all the carnage and waste of humanity in perspective.

He declared “The Reich needs new territory.”

One of the things my father often taught me was that greed is at the root of almost every war.

The belief that someone else has something that is so worth taking that human life becomes collateral damage is why so many died in Europe.

Poison gas made it’s introduction to the world then too.

Let us always remember, war is Hell.

If not avoided at all costs, then there will be no end to the need for new memorial museums, reminding us of the death and destruction caused by a madman’s greed.

Pope–Looking Away or Bouncing?

September 24, 2013

If you’ve ever run a Bar or Saloon, you know what a Bouncer is.

He’s the biggest guy you know, willing to police the bar, so that the biggest idiots in town don’t get to behave outside of the Bar’s rules.

There are a few Liberals getting all wound up that the Pope is trying to relax the rules of the Church regarding sin.

If so, then why did he just bounce a Priest out of the flock?

To be more specific, he both defrocked and excommunicated him.

Sounds like the rules aren’t changing at all.

It’s just a few trouble makers hoping they can get away with bad behavior by misquoting the owner of the bar.

Except in this case, the owner and the bouncer are the same guy.

The NFL vs. Seldom Read Books of the Bible

September 23, 2013

There’s little doubt that Americans, especially men, are a bit too obsessed with the NFL.

For most, it’s no worse than a woman fawning over shoes, or Pinterest.

As much as I love Tim Tebow and want him to succeed, there’s likely a little bit of innocence by association going on, i.e. me trying to cover my football lust by raving over a bro.

I know that Bible Christians are also obsessed with Scripture.

Check these verses out.

7 Give alms out of thy substance, and turn not away thy face from any poor person: for so it shall come to pass that the face of the Lord shall not be turned from thee.

8 According to thy ability be merciful.

9 If thou have much give abundantly: if thou have a little, take care even so to bestow willingly a little.

As I read this yesterday, I was saddened that so few believers ever take the time to read this book.

Why is that?

Because it’s from the Book of Tobit, from the Septuagint.

Christians are divided over seven books that Catholics accept, but Martin Luther rejected.

Even though portions of Tobit were found in the Dead Sea Scrolls, I’d still rather not argue with those who prefer to embrace Luther over the Pope.

I don’t care if you’re not willing to call it Holy Writ.

Here’s my simple request–pretend the book of Tobit is the NFL Network–pure entertainment.

As for the athletic Christian hero you’re humoring…that would be you.

Help Holloway Charge 300

September 22, 2013

One of my best memories as a young Pats fan was seeing gargantuan Brian Holloway doing business around the Pittsfield area while he was a player.

Since his retirement I have not heard much from him around town.

Until last week, when it was revealed that roughly 300 teenagers broke into his home to have a party.

The first thought that occurred to me was, whatever happened to the Pittsfield State Forest?

In other words, when we wanted to have a party we went as far away from civilization as possible, so as not to disturb it.

Apparently those days are gone.

I just have one thing to say to Brian.

If you really want to help those 300 brats, press charges against them.

The last thing they need is a “pass” that prevents Colleges and future Employers from knowing what they did.

For every kid who did attend, there are likely dozens who refused…whose parents cared enough to teach them respect.

They’re the ones who deserve first crack at a scholarship to Sienna, or St. Rose, or St. Mike’s.

Don’t do an Anti-Dragnet…by hiding the names to protect the guilty.

The criminal charges just might teach their pathetic parents a lesson too…who unanimously refused to show up and help you clean the mess.

One last thing…Jesus healed 10 lepers once…only one came back to say thanks.

Keep that thought as you read the article below.

Gun Control Does Nothing–Harvard???

September 21, 2013

Just when you thought it was safe to declare “nothing good would ever come out of Harvard again.”

  • Elizabeth Warren
  • Barack Obama

…along comes a study confirming what every gun owning American citizen has forever instinctively known.

As far as liberals are concerned, this news is much too good to be true–for conservatives that is.

I need you to do two things.

1. Read the article attached to the link below…go ahead…it’ll make your day.

2. Prepare for liberals to go ballistic spouting conspiracy theories with the NRA-(don’t worry if things get ugly on campus, the Harvard Police carry guns).
