What is True Vindication?

I’ve always felt that those who hold onto grudges against friends or loved ones suffer more than those they disdain.

Anger and bitterness, even in small doses, interfere with God’s will for us to have an abundant life.

In today’s Old Testament reading from Isaiah 48:17-19, I stumbled across something that may make the offended breathe a bit easier.

First of all, God invented the idea of vindication, not man.

Way back in the garden of Eden, the sinners and serpent all experienced it from the Almighty, as He demoted and/or relocated them to lesser stations.

Check out how the Father wants us to deal with our anger, from Isaiah.

Thus says the LORD, your redeemer,
the Holy One of Israel:
I, the LORD, your God,
teach you what is for your good,
and lead you on the way you should go.
If you would hearken to my commandments,
your prosperity would be like a river,
and your vindication like the waves of the sea;
Your descendants would be like the sand,
and those born of your stock like its grains,
Their name never cut off
or blotted out from my presence.

There are two parts to the definition of “vindication.”

The first is a clearing of your name…let’s call that redemption from sin.

The second is an exacting of revenge…let’s call that God’s job, not yours.

As we meditate on all that God can do, because He cannot lie, let your anger be turned to faith.

Then wait for the waves of the sea to wash away your enemies.

Nothing can stop the rising tide and your prosperity can be like a river.
