Luke 5 Deserves an Entire Semester

In today’s Gospel reading, from Luke 5:17-26, one could argue that Christ’s entire mission on earth is wrapped up in just 9 verses of Holy Scripture.

By the way, I’m qualified to be the student, not the Professor.

O.K., possibly I’m being a bit too hard on myself…maybe Grad-Student T.A.

Almost like reading the ingredients of the Lentil Chips I found at the Supermarket, which I know should be better for me than Doritos, I discovered they had just as many, if not more, elements to them…beginning with Bean Flour and ending with Potassium Chloride.

To save you time, I’ve put my comments in CAPS.

One day as Jesus was teaching, PROPHECY FULFILLED
Pharisees and teachers of the law,
who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there, THE WISE CONFOUNDED
and the power of the Lord was with him for healing. HEALING THE SICK
And some men brought on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed;they were trying to bring him in and set him in his presence. But not finding a way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof BLESSED ARE THE MEEK
and lowered him on the stretcher through the tiles
into the middle in front of Jesus. HOLY SPIRIT EMBOLDENED THEM
When Jesus saw their faith, he said,”As for you, your sins are forgiven.” REDEMPTION IN CHRIST

Then the scribes and Pharisees began to ask themselves,
“Who is this who speaks blasphemies? THE WORLD OFFENDED
Who but God alone can forgive sins?” SATAN ACCUSES
Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them in reply, OMNISCIENCE
“What are you thinking in your hearts? WORD OF GOD CONFRONTS THEM
Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’
or to say, ‘Rise and walk?’ CHRIST DEMANDS A DECISION
But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins?”he said to the one who was paralyzed,
“I say to you, rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home.” EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW

He stood up immediately before them,
picked up what he had been lying on,
and went home, glorifying God. FAITH REWARDED
Then astonishment seized them all and they glorified God,
and, struck with awe, they said,
“We have seen incredible things today.” ETERNAL BLESSINGS

If you haven’t tried Christ yet, I recommend Him over the Lentil Chips.

The ingredients to eternal life in Him are far easier to understand.
