A Detroit Vacation? Cops Say No

The latest news coming out of America’s most violent city is a new Trip Adviser like report by the President of the Detroit Police Officer’s Association.

Here’s an excerpt from CBS affiliate WWJ’s online news:

DETROIT (WWJ) – The men and women of the Detroit Police Department believe the city is too dangerous to enter, and they want citizens to know it.  Detroit Police Officer Association (DPOA) Attorney Donato Iorio said officers are holding the “Enter At Your Own Risk” rally at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in front of Comerica Park to remind the public that the officers are overworked, understaffed, and at times, fearful for their lives. “Detroit is America’s most violent city, its homicide rate is the highest in the country and yet the Detroit Police Department is grossly understaffed,” Iorio told WWJ’s Kathryn Larson. “The DPOA believes that there is a war in Detroit, but there should be a war on crime, not a war on its officers.”

I’m not qualified to comment on the cops and their beef with Detroit…the DPOA is.

Today’s reading–Mark 10–is glimpse into Jesus’ teaching about the right to divorce.

The Pharisees approached Jesus and asked, “Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?” They were testing him.  He said to them in reply, “What did Moses command you?”  They replied, “Moses permitted a husband to write a bill of divorce and dismiss her.” But Jesus told them, “Because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment.  But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.  So they are no longer two but one flesh.  Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate.”

The key point Christ makes is that Truth never changes.

Religious leaders, like Moses, have to listen to so much griping that sometimes exceptions are made.

But exceptions to Truth don’t come without consequences.

The number one cause of violent crime in America can be traced to one thing–fatherless homes.

The more we analyze the breakdown of society the more clear it becomes that a form of feminism (the idea that fathers don’t matter) is to blame.

Study after study concludes that it’s not poverty that causes crime, but a lack of parenting… especially from a loving dad.

If poverty caused crime then the Great Depression would have been our highest period of malice.

It was among our lowest.

This revelation is nothing new.

Here’s an excerpt from a 1995 report called the Real Root Cause of Violence, by Patrick Fagan of the Heritage Foundation.

Research into the idea that single-parent homes may produce more delinquents dates back to  the early 19th century…. Officials at New York State’s Auburn Penitentiary, in an attempt to discern the causes of crime, studied the biographies of incarcerated men. Reports to the legislature in 1829 and 1830 suggested that family disintegration resulting from the death, desertion, or divorce of parents led to undisciplined children who eventually became criminals. Now well over a century later, researchers continue to examine the family background of unique populations and reach similar conclusions.

When American politicians made the decision that financially supporting every sexual encounter imaginable, without an emphasis on holding fathers responsible, we almost guaranteed places like Detroit would erupt into war zones.

Conservatives must get out and vote in November.

It may be the only hope we have to stem the tide of a society rewarding misbehavior.

There’s no such thing as Obama Money, or an Obama Phone, or Obama Contraception, or Obama anything for that matter.

We the taxpayers pay every bill.

America, like the hard-hearted people of Moses’ day, must go back to God’s way to raise a family…otherwise, what’s happening in Detroit will overtake us all…even though we may have guns.
