Tribute to a Local Hero–Pfc. Michael DeMarsico

Whenever the national news reports about a U.S. soldier’s death in Iraq or Afghanistan, families like mine, who don’t have loved ones in harm’s way, have it way too easy.

Today’s local newspaper headlines reported the death of 20-year-old Michael DeMarsico, from North Adams, Massachusetts.

My sincerest condolences go out to the DeMarsico family for the tragic loss of their son, brother and friend, at the hands of our enemies in Afghanistan.

Michael’s lifelong dream of being a soldier, and thousands more like him who create our all volunteer Army, are the reason why so many families like mine sleep well at night here in America.

May God grant your loved ones peace during this very difficult time, as they transition from constant worry about your safety, to heart-break for your loss.

Our community is forever grateful for the Christ-like way in which you accepted the front position in your unit as a scout for the very IED that would’ve killed someone else, had it not been for your bravery.

Sleep well in God’s arms young man–you are a hero.
