Trees are Smarter Than People

Any good farmer raising a crop such as apples, or pears, or olives, knows that one of the most essential things to improving the health of the tree is pruning the weak branches so that more nourishment goes to the strong.

Within moments of these adjustments the tree is better off.

In today’s Gospel reading from John 15, Jesus says the following.

He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit,
and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.

Unlike the tree, we humans argue with God and try to rationalize against change.

We even go so far as to try grafting dead branches back onto our trunks.

A real tree is far too smart to waste its time doing that.

Is God pruning something from your life right now?

If so, let it happen.

Remember the words of Jesus–He wants you to “bear more fruit.”

Have faith that the pain of change and loss is temporary medicine, like swallowing cough syrup…it only stings for a few seconds, then the healing sets in.
